Falkland Unveils Niger City Waterfront Project to Drive Delta’s Blue Economy
The Chairman of Falkland Nigeria Limited has unveiled plans for the Niger City waterfront project, describing it as a transformative development designed to unlock Delta State’s blue economy, attract private investment, create jobs and stimulate long-term economic growth.
Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, the company said the proposed development aims to transform underutilised riverfront wetlands into a modern, master-planned economic and urban district featuring residential communities, commercial centres, tourism and hospitality facilities, logistics hubs and other strategic investments.
To demonstrate its commitment to the project, the chairman disclosed that Falkland Nigeria Limited has operated a dredger at the project site for about two years and recently acquired an additional state-of-the-art dredger to accelerate land reclamation works.
“This is more than an investment in equipment, it is an investment in a vision, an investment in Delta State, and an investment in the future.”
The company said the Niger City project builds on its experience in developing Orange Island in the Lagos Lagoon, a 50-hectare land reclamation project, adding that the same expertise would now be deployed to deliver a world-class waterfront city in Delta State.
The chairman also commended Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for creating an investor-friendly environment and acknowledged the support of the Secretary to the Delta State Government, describing collaboration between government and the private sector as critical to the project’s success.
“Government creates the enabling environment, while the private sector provides the capital, expertise, innovation, and execution needed to bring ambitious projects to life.”
Reaffirming the company’s commitment to the state, he pledged continued investment, job creation and collaboration with host communities, expressing confidence that the Niger City project would contribute significantly to Delta State’s economic transformation and strengthen its position as a leading investment destination.
“That is why we remain firmly committed to Delta State. We are committed to investing, creating employment opportunities, working closely with host communities, and contributing meaningfully to the economic transformation of this great state.”
