‘Dreadlock Dey Cause Insecurity?’ – Daddy Showkey Slams Niger Governor Over Directive
Veteran Nigerian musician John Asiemo, aka Daddy Showkey, has slammed Niger State Governor Umar Bago over a directive to arrest individuals wearing dreadlocks in the state capital, Minna.
The governor’s order also included cutting the hair of those with dreadlocks and imposing fines on them.
Daddy Showkey, known for his signature dreadlocks, questioned the logic behind the directive in an Instagram post.
He wrote, “Na dreadlock dey cause insecurity for the country or na dada dey worry you? What of people with mumu beard?”
He also revealed plans to visit Minna had been scrapped due to the directive, saying “Mohamed Umar, dada be your problem? I dey to come Minna but now you have ask your security agents to cut off dreadlocks so hold your state, but make you cut your beer beer.”
The directive was made during a stakeholders’ security meeting at the Government House but was later reversed following widespread backlash from the public and civil rights advocates.
