Delta Govt Reschedules BECE Exams for June 16–20
The Delta State Government has announced a revised schedule for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), originally slated to hold from June 9 to June 13 for both public and private secondary schools across the state.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Daniel Akiri, on behalf of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, the examination will now take place from June 16 to June 20, 2025.
The shift in dates, the statement explained, was necessitated by the Federal Government’s declaration of public holidays on June 6 and June 9, in observance of Eid-ul-Adha and Democracy Day (June 12).
“We regret the inconvenience the change in dates may have caused,” the statement added.
The BECE is a crucial national examination taken by students at the end of Junior Secondary School (JSS 3). It marks the completion of Nigeria’s nine-year Basic Education phase and is a prerequisite for promotion to Senior Secondary School (SSS 1) or progression into vocational education.
Administered by NECO at the federal level and by State Ministries of Education at the state level, the BECE typically covers core subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, and Basic Science, and plays a key role in the country’s 9-3-4 education system.
