Delta Assembly Screens Civil Service Nominees, Prepares for 2026 Budget Presentation
On Tuesday, 25th November 2025, the Delta State House of Assembly held its plenary, during which Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor announced that the House had received a letter from Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori concerning his intention to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
In the letter, the governor informed lawmakers of his intention to appear before the Assembly on Wednesday to formally lay the budget. The Speaker read the message to the House and noted that preparations would be made to receive the governor for the presentation.
The plenary progressed to the screening of nominees for reappointment into the Delta State Civil Service Commission. Three nominees appeared before the House: Comrade Olumami O. Oyibo, Dr. Chief Akpufuoma I. Pemu, and Prince Mike Oputa.
Comrade Oyibo, who was the first to be screened, was asked to step down and return at a later date to correct errors in his Curriculum Vitae. Lawmakers emphasized the importance of proper documentation, stressing that the House is an institution of records.
Dr. Chief Akpufuoma I. Pemu and Prince Mike Oputa, who followed in the screening process, scaled through without objections and were duly confirmed for reappointment.
Earlier in the session, the Assembly also took the Notice of Presentation and First Reading of the Delta State Public Health and Hygiene Bill, 2025 (HB.42). Sponsored by Hon. Engr. Emeka Emmanuel Nwaobi and sixteen other members, the bill seeks to repeal the Public Health Law of 1957 and introduce a modern framework for regulating public health and hygiene in the state.
