Delta Unveils 2026 Investment Summit to Attract Local and Foreign Investors
The Delta State Government has announced that all is set for the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, describing the event as a strategic platform to attract local and foreign investments that will accelerate economic growth, create jobs and position the state as a leading investment destination in Nigeria.
Speaking during a press briefing in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the summit, scheduled for August 3 to 5, will convene investors, policymakers, business leaders and development partners from Nigeria and abroad to explore opportunities across key sectors, including agriculture, the blue economy, oil and gas, hospitality, information and communication technology (ICT), real estate and the creative industry.
Aniagwu said the summit builds on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s sustained investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, security and human capital development, which have created an enabling environment for businesses to thrive. He disclosed that investors from Brazil, China and several other countries have confirmed participation following the state’s investment engagements, including its investment roadshow to Brazil.
Highlighting Delta’s investment potential, the commissioner said the state’s 163-kilometre Atlantic coastline offers enormous opportunities in the blue economy, while its agricultural sector, particularly livestock production, has attracted growing interest from international investors.
He also revealed that the summit has secured the support of five Diamond Sponsors, alongside several Gold and Silver Sponsors, describing the corporate backing as a reflection of growing confidence in the Oborevwori administration’s transparent and accountable leadership.
Clarifying the purpose of the summit, Aniagwu stressed that the event is not a fundraising exercise but an investment-driven initiative aimed at attracting credible investors capable of establishing sustainable businesses in the state.
“We are not organising a fundraising event. We are organising an economic and investment summit to bring genuine investors into Delta State. Our focus is on long-term investments that will create jobs and stimulate economic growth,” he said.
Aniagwu said the summit will attract an array of distinguished local and international speakers, with WTO Director-General, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, delivering the keynote address. The event will also feature Prof. Patrick Lumumba, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, and Engr. Austin Avuru, while Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected as the Special Guest of Honour.
According to Aniagwu, the summit underscores Delta State’s commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships and private-sector investments to drive industrialisation, diversify the economy and deliver sustainable development in line with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
