Cross River Debunks Fresh COVID-19 Case Claims
The Cross River State Government has dismissed reports claiming new COVID-19 cases in the state, describing the information as misleading and inaccurate.
The clarification follows earlier reports suggesting a rise in infections, which triggered concerns among residents over a possible resurgence of the virus.
Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, stated that as of April 23, 2026, only one confirmed COVID-19 case exists in the state, with no additional cases recorded.
He explained that the reported case involves a patient currently receiving treatment and responding well, adding that precautionary isolation measures should not be misinterpreted as evidence of new infections.
The government urged residents to disregard false reports and rely strictly on official updates from health authorities, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and public safety.
Health officials also maintained that surveillance and response systems remain active, assuring residents that there is no cause for panic despite the isolated case earlier confirmed in the state.
The development comes amid renewed vigilance across Nigeria’s health sector, as authorities continue to monitor and manage COVID-19 cases while preventing misinformation.
