Tinubu’s Name Reminds Me of Hardship — Falz
Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has said the name of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu instantly reminds him of hardship.
Falz made the remark during an interview with Soundcity, where he was asked to share what comes to mind when he hears the president’s name.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. What comes to your mind when you hear his name?” the interviewer asked.
“Hardship. No elaboration,” Falz responded bluntly.
Falz is known for being a vocal critic of government policies and has consistently used his platform to speak against what he sees as poor leadership in Nigeria.
Last month, the rapper sharply criticized President Tinubu over the killing of more than 200 people in Benue State, accusing him of gross failure in fulfilling his most basic responsibility as Commander-in-Chief.
In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter) on June 16, 2025, Falz condemned what he described as a pattern of negligence in the face of rising insecurity across the country.
“You have consistently shown that you are incapable of performing the primary duty of securing the lives and property of your citizens. This routine statement does not cut it,” he wrote.
His post came after days of public outrage over the president’s silence on the mass killings in Benue. Following mounting pressure, Tinubu issued a statement, part of which read:
“Enough is enough. I have been briefed on the senseless bloodletting in Benue State. Enough is enough! I have directed the security agencies to act decisively, arrest perpetrators of these evil acts on all sides of the conflict, and prosecute them.
“Political and community leaders in Benue State must act responsibly and avoid inflammatory utterances that could further increase tensions and killings. This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and immediately lead the process of dialogue and reconciliation that will bring peace to Benue.”
