Bring Back Cashless Policy – Yul Edochie Begs Tinubu in Open Letter

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has made a public appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to reinstate the cashless policy initially introduced under the Buhari administration, which he says once helped stabilise Nigeria’s economy.

In an open letter shared on his official Instagram page, Yul described the cashless policy as a powerful economic tool that boosted the naira’s value and helped lower the cost of goods and services.

“To my leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR @officialasiwajubat, I humbly suggest you bring back the cashless policy. When it was introduced by the previous administration, it increased the value of the naira tremendously,” Yul wrote.

He further argued that the policy played a key role in curbing crime, particularly the rising cases of kidnapping for ransom, which typically rely on the movement of large amounts of cash.

“It helped to bring down prices of goods, and it made 5, 10, 20 and 50 naira notes regain value. The cashless policy also helped to reduce kidnapping massively. Consider it again, Sir. Thank you, Your Excellency,” he added.

Yul’s comments have triggered mixed reactions online, with some social media users supporting his suggestion while others expressed skepticism or outright rejection.

One commenter responded: “No, we are good with the cash-at-hand policy… It’s working for many of us. Do I have a witness? Thank you.”

Another wrote: “Sir, I need money to pay my rent,” while yet another questioned Yul’s sincerity: “Hmmmmm… Prove that you are not even an insider of this administration as you portray… if not, why you no go him office go tell am?”

This is not the first time Yul Edochie has publicly shown support for President Tinubu. In December 2024, he described Tinubu as a “silent achiever,” listing what he called notable accomplishments of the current administration, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and reported improvements in infrastructure and agriculture.

His latest appeal comes at a time when many Nigerians are battling surging inflation, rising food prices, and worsening insecurity, particularly in states like Benue, where violent attacks have displaced thousands.

While some Nigerians see merit in Yul’s suggestion, others argue that the real challenge lies in broader governance and economic reforms, rather than monetary policy alone.
