Delta Govt Cautions Motorists Against Overloading Traffic Violations
The Delta State Government, through the Directorate of Transport, has launched an intensified public sensitization campaign to enforce traffic compliance and enhance safety standards across its road and waterway networks.
In an official public announcement, the State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, urged motorists, commercial drivers, transport operators, and boat handlers to strictly observe safety guidelines. Road users were warned against reckless behaviors such as overloading, driving against traffic (one-way driving), dangerous overtaking, and operating vehicles with expired or worn-out tyres.
The state government also cautioned vehicle owners against using non-roadworthy vehicles, noting that excessive exhaust emissions contribute significantly to environmental pollution and present serious public health hazards.
On water safety, commercial boat operators and passengers travelling along Delta’s riverine channels were reminded that wearing approved life jackets remains mandatory at all times to prevent drownings and boat mishaps.
Reiterating the administration’s policy, Agofure stressed that compliance with transport regulations is essential to protecting lives and property. He added that the state government remains dedicated to advancing socio-economic development by maintaining an efficient, affordable, and safe transportation system across all 25 local government areas.
