Delta Govt to Roll Out Automatic Number Plate Recognition System November 14
The Delta State Government has announced the official rollout of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, also known as Plate Detect, beginning Friday, November 14, 2025, in Asaba and Warri, before extending to other cities across the state.
In a statement signed by Harold Ojji, Permanent Secretary and Director of Public Communication, the government said the innovation is part of its broader strategy to enhance road safety, improve traffic management, and strengthen compliance with vehicle documentation laws in Delta State.
According to the statement, the initiative is being implemented through the Vehicle Inspection Department (VIO) under the Delta State Directorate of Transport.
The Plate Detect solution is designed to automatically identify vehicles with expired or invalid licenses, insurance, or roadworthiness certificates, helping owners renew them promptly to avoid penalties. It will also detect over-speeding and traffic signal violations, thereby discouraging unsafe driving and promoting responsible road use across the state.
“The system will support security agencies in quickly identifying vehicles linked to infractions or threats, ensuring safer roads and communities,” the statement noted.
The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, urged vehicle owners and transport operators to embrace the technology and ensure full compliance, stressing that the initiative aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda on modernization and safety.
To facilitate adoption, the Directorate of Transport has commenced public awareness campaigns through radio jingles and other official channels to educate motorists on how to use the new platform.
For more details, vehicle owners can visit www.platedetect.com or contact the Directorate through the listed official phone numbers (08035032366, 08034826014, 09063522324, 08154087910, +234129937210, +23412929937211).
“Together, let us build a Delta State where technology works for the people,” the statement concluded.
