Barcelona’s New Era Begins As Camp Nou Reopens August 10
After years of anticipation, Barcelona’s iconic Camp Nou stadium is set to welcome fans back for a friendly match on August 10.
The Spanish champions announced that the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy will mark the stadium’s partial reopening, following a massive renovation project aimed at modernizing and expanding the historic venue.
Although construction work will continue in various areas, the club confirmed that the stadium will host its first match in years.
“Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium,” the club said in a statement.
The initial capacity for the August 10 match has not been officially confirmed, but local reports suggest that the available stands can accommodate around 35,000 fans.
The renovation project, dubbed “Espai Barca,” includes the completion of the new third tier, dual VIP ring, roof installation, interior spaces, and development of the stadium’s surrounding area.
Barcelona will play their first three La Liga games away from home, giving the club an extra month to continue work on the stadium.
The project, which began in 2023, is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026 and will increase the Camp Nou’s capacity to 105,000. Until then, the team has been playing their home games at the smaller Montjuic Olympic stadium.
