Oborevwori Pays June Stipends to 10,000 Delta Widows, Renews Hope for Vulnerable Women
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has continued his administration’s social welfare drive as 10,000 beneficiaries of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme began receiving their June 2026 monthly stipends, bringing relief and renewed hope to vulnerable women across the state.
The beneficiaries, drawn from the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State, reportedly started receiving payment alerts on Friday, with many expressing appreciation to the Oborevwori administration for sustaining the intervention programme despite prevailing economic challenges.
The welfare initiative, established to cushion the economic hardships faced by widows, has continued to provide financial support to thousands of women struggling with the emotional and economic realities of losing their spouses.
Speaking to journalists in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Elder Isioma Okonta, confirmed that the payment of the June 2026 stipends had commenced, with funds already credited to the accounts of the 10,000 verified widows captured in the first phase of the programme.
According to him, the governor’s consistency in releasing the monthly stipends demonstrates his administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance and the welfare of vulnerable citizens.
“The stipends for June 2026 have started hitting the accounts of the 10,000 verified widows enrolled in the first phase of the scheme. This is another demonstration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s compassion and unwavering commitment to the welfare of vulnerable citizens,” Okonta said.
He also commended the widows’ monitors and Local Government Area coordinators for successfully carrying out the verification exercise across the state’s 25 councils, noting that the exercise has further strengthened the credibility and transparency of the programme by ensuring that only genuine beneficiaries receive the monthly support.
Okonta described Governor Oborevwori’s sustained funding of the scheme as highly commendable, saying the initiative has continued to put smiles on the faces of widows and other disadvantaged residents across the state.
He added that the programme reflects the Oborevwori administration’s people-centred approach to governance and its determination to ensure that vulnerable members of society are not left behind in the state’s development agenda.
