10 Things to Know About New INEC Chairman-Designate, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan
The National Council of State has approved the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) from Kogi State as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated Amupitan to succeed Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who served as INEC Chairman from 2015 until October 2025.

Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan was born on April 25, 1967, in Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria.

3. Academic Journey Began in Ilorin
After completing his primary and secondary education before 1982, he attended Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, between 1982 and 1984, laying the foundation for his pursuit of law.
