Our Drivers Earn Four Times Minimum Wage, More Than Graduates – Dangote
Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, has revealed that drivers working under his company’s newly launched Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks scheme earn not only more than many graduates but also up to four times Nigeria’s minimum wage.
Speaking at the rollout of the 10,000 CNG-powered trucks at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki, Lagos, on Moday, Dangote said the initiative would create 24,000 direct jobs and offer attractive incentives to drivers, including housing loans, insurance packages, and pension contributions.
“Our drivers can apply for housing loans. They earn more than a graduate, and four times the minimum wage. Any NUPENG driver who doesn’t have a job and wants to join Dangote CNG drivers to earn more money is welcome,” Dangote stated.
The billionaire industrialist also dismissed claims by the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) that his direct distribution plan would displace existing tanker drivers. According to him, the project is designed to expand opportunities, not reduce them.
Benefits for Dangote CNG drivers include; Wages above graduate-level salaries, Up to 4x the current minimum wage, Access to housing loans, Health insurance for drivers, their spouses, and up to four children and Life insurance and pension plan.
The company is deploying 4,000 tankers and 6,000 dry cargo trucks, all powered by CNG, in line with government efforts to cut reliance on petrol and diesel.
