Nigeria To Open First-Ever Science Museum In Abuja
Nigeria is set to make history with the opening of its first science museum, the NAS–T.Y. Danjuma Science Museum and Library, in Abuja on May 21, 2026.
The landmark facility is expected to serve as a major hub for science education, innovation, research, and public learning, providing Nigerians with access to interactive scientific exhibitions and educational resources.
Organisers described the project as “a new home for science,” designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and scientific advancement among students, researchers, and the general public.
The museum and library project is backed by the Nigerian Academy of Science and supported by retired military officer and philanthropist Theophilus Danjuma through the TY Danjuma Foundation.
The opening marks a significant step in Nigeria’s push to promote science, technology, engineering, and innovation, especially among young people and students.
The facility is also expected to complement ongoing science and space-related educational initiatives in Abuja, including developments around the National Space Research and Development Agency, which has previously overseen plans for space museum and planetarium projects in the Federal Capital Territory.
Stakeholders say the museum will provide a platform for scientific exhibitions, educational outreach, and national conversations around innovation and technological development.
The public opening ceremony is expected to attract scientists, government officials, academics, students, and technology enthusiasts from across the country.
