FCT Workers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Allowances, Benefits
Civil servants under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority (FCDA) have embarked on an indefinite strike, throwing government operations across the nation’s capital into paralysis.
The industrial action, directed by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), follows the expiration of several ultimatums issued to the FCT Administration regarding unresolved staff welfare grievances.
Union leaders confirmed that members have been instructed to withdraw all services until their demands including the payment of outstanding promotion arrears, implementation of approved wage allowances, and the resolution of lingering administrative bottlenecks, are fully met.
Key government offices, Secretariat complexes, and public service utilities across Abuja remained shuttered as union representatives enforced compliance at entry gates. The strike is expected to cause significant disruption to administrative services, land allocation processing, municipal operations, and public infrastructure maintenance across the Federal Capital Territory.
Civil society groups and commercial operators in Abuja have urged the Federal Capital Territory Minister and key government representatives to immediately engage union leadership in constructive dialogue to prevent prolonged economic and operational paralysis in the nation’s seat of power.
