Nigeria Adopts 112 as Toll-Free National Emergency Line

The Federal Government of Nigeria has formally adopted 112 as the official Toll-Free National Emergency Number to streamline disaster management, security response, and emergency communications across the country.

Managed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) through its network of Emergency Communications Centres (ECC) established across state capitals, the 112 hotline allows citizens to report life-threatening situations, crimes, fires, medical emergencies, and accidents directly to security agencies and first responders at zero cost on any telecom network.

The single emergency number operates 24/7 and automatically routes calls from any location in Nigeria to the nearest operational Emergency Communications Centre.

From there, trained dispatch agents coordinate real-time interventions with the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Fire Services, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and state health services.

Public safety authorities have urged citizens, transport operators, and community leaders across Delta State and the nation to save and utilize the 112 number during distress calls, emphasizing that prompt reporting drastically improves emergency response times and saves lives.
