CP Yemi Oyeniyi Assumes Duty as 24th Commissioner of Police in Delta


The Delta State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Yemi John Oyeniyi as the 24th Commissioner of Police in the state.

He succeeds CP Aina Adesola, taking over the leadership of the Command with a wealth of experience spanning over two decades in policing.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, CP Oyeniyi officially assumed duty on March 27, 2026.

Born on March 5, 1969, CP Oyeniyi hails from Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtained in 1991, and a Master’s degree in Public Order and Information Management from the University of Uyo in 2023.

He also possesses diplomas in Personnel Management from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Lagos, and Community Policing from the Police Staff College, Jos.

CP Oyeniyi was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and began his career in Akwa Ibom State Command after completing his training.

Over the years, he has served in various operational, investigative, administrative, and training roles across several states, including Akwa Ibom, Delta, Zamfara, Enugu, Ogun, Ondo, and Oyo.

Notably, he previously served in the Delta State Police Command between 2000 and 2005, where he held key positions at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), including Officer-in-Charge of General Investigation and Anti-Fraud Unit.

He also gained international experience through peacekeeping missions with the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) and the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) between 2007 and 2010.

Prior to his current appointment, CP Oyeniyi served as Commissioner of Police and Deputy Head of the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja.

The new police chief has attended several professional courses, including the Junior Command Course, Tactical Leadership and Command Course, and Strategic Leadership and Command Course.

He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management and a member of the National Institute of Police Studies, among other professional bodies.

Described as a seasoned officer, CP Oyeniyi is known for his discipline, professionalism, and strategic leadership, with core competencies in criminal investigation, anti-fraud operations, and police training.

He is married with children and enjoys listening to music and watching football.
