Be Financially, Mentally Stable Before Marriage, Chiwetalu Agu Tells Women

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has advised women to focus on achieving financial independence, mental strength, and spiritual stability before getting married.

In a video posted on his Instagram, Agu cautioned women against relying solely on marriage for identity or fulfillment, stressing that self-development should come first.

“The best advice I can give you as a lady before you embark on the journey of marriage is to be a complete woman before you marry,” Agu said.
“Make sure you are mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially stable before you marry. It is not marriage that completes you as a woman.”

The veteran actor explained that marriage should complement a woman’s life, not complete it, adding that true fulfillment comes from self-reliance and personal growth.

“Your work, identity, or sense of completeness as a woman does not depend on being married. Marriage should be a beautiful addition, not a missing piece,” he said.

Agu further urged women to invest in their dreams, passions, and careers, warning that total dependence on a man can be risky.

“Before you marry, build yourself up. Even if you are not yet financially stable, at least make sure you have a handwork or business idea. Know what it means to be independent,” he advised.

The actor noted that women who lack financial or emotional stability may face hardship in difficult marital situations, including divorce, widowhood, or family disputes.

“God forbid your husband dies and you have nothing of your own. If your in-laws are wicked, they will strip you of everything. That is why you must stand on your own,” Agu added.
