Victor Boniface Reveals Why He Chose Bayer Leverkusen Over English clubs
Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has shed light on his career choices, prioritizing clubs with a suitable playing style and manageable pressure levels.
In a recent podcast session with Webek Studios, Boniface explained that he carefully considers a team’s style of play and pressure dynamics before making a move.
When asked if he had ever played for a struggling team, Boniface replied, “No, me, I don’t think so. Since I started my professional football career, every team I have played is like one or two. You see that we came first or we came second.”
Boniface emphasized that he assesses a club’s playing style and pressure levels before joining, stating, “Before I made a transfer or before I go to a club, I always check what type of football they are playing. Is this going to suit my pattern? Is this a team that has too much pressure? Some players can’t play under pressure.”
The striker revealed that he turned down lucrative offers from English clubs to join Bayer Leverkusen, citing differences in playing style as the reason. “I had some decent deals coming from England. Good money, good everything. But I just don’t want to go to this type of team because their style of play,” he said.
Boniface stressed the importance of being in the right system to perform at his best, adding, “If you put me in a possession team, I will give you everything. But when I’m playing, you see the best of this guy. If I can go to a team, I will be like the number one.”
