Ex-Super Eagles Star Okwuchukwu Waobikeze Passes On
The Nigerian football community is in mourning following the death of former Super Eagles winger, Okwuchukwu “Allen” Waobikeze, who left an indelible mark on the sport.
Waobikeze, affectionately known as “Babaoo,” was celebrated for his impressive left foot and exceptional ball control.
Although his appearances for the Super Eagles were limited due to strong competition, Waobikeze made a significant impact in Nigeria’s domestic football scene, playing for notable clubs such as Sharks FC, BCC Lions, and Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC).
The news of his passing was confirmed by his brother, Eli Waobikeze, in a heartfelt Facebook post on Monday. The family shared the following statement:
“On behalf of the Waobikeze family, I would like to announce the peaceful passing to eternal glory of my brother Allen Okwuchukwu Waobikeze. He transitioned at about 7:34 pm CST.
We appreciate everyone who prayed, called, and visited my brother Okwuchukwu Waobikeze. Every funeral arrangement will be posted.
Please keep our family in your prayers at this time as we plan to send forth our beloved brother. God bless you all.”
Waobikeze’s passing comes shortly after the death of former Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, further saddening the football fraternity.
