AC Milan Pulls Out of Boniface Deal Over Medicals

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface’s move to AC Milan has collapsed after he was subjected to four different medicals in Italy, according to German outlet BILD.

The report, by PUNCH, revealed that Milan pulled out of the deal for the Bayer Leverkusen forward due to lingering concerns about his fitness and long-term medical history. The 24-year-old was in Italy over the weekend for tests with the Rossoneri but has since returned to Germany, leaving uncertainty about his next step.

Milan sporting director Igli Tare confirmed the club’s caution when speaking to the press on Saturday. He said:

“We knew that he had problems in the past, we are evaluating everything as planned with regards to the health and fitness of the player.
His qualities are undoubted. We are just trying to make the right decision for this situation.”

Despite having a full agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer structured around a €5m loan fee and a €24m option to buy Milan eventually withdrew.

Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, told BILD that the deal would be considered finished if Boniface returned to Germany:

“If he comes back (to Leverkusen), the Milan deal will be over. It’s no big secret.”

Italian media further reported that Milan had major reservations over Boniface’s injury record, which includes two cruciate ligament tears on the same knee during his time at Bodo/Glimt, as well as several muscular injuries that caused him to miss significant spells over the last two seasons at Bayer Leverkusen.

This marks the second failed transfer for the Nigerian international in 2025. In January, he was heavily linked with a €60m move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, but that deal was also abandoned late in negotiations.

As Boniface enters his third season in Germany, his future with Leverkusen under new manager Erik Ten Hag remains uncertain. He joined the Bundesliga club from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2023 for a reported €20.5m and still has three years left on his contract.
