US Embassy, Consulate Close in Honour of Late President Buhari
The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have temporarily shut their doors in observance of the public holiday declared by the Nigerian government to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The US Mission in Nigeria made the announcement via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, July 14, stating that the closure was in alignment with the national mourning declared for the former Nigerian leader.
“All visa appointments slated for July 15, 2025, will be rescheduled,” the statement read, adding that affected applicants would receive notifications with updated appointment dates in due course.
Consular operations are expected to resume once the holiday period ends.
The Federal Government had declared Tuesday, July 15, a work-free day following the death of Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London hospital.
