Buhari Might Have Died Sooner If He Used Nigerian Hospitals – Femi Adesina

Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, has said that the late president might not have survived as long as he did had he relied on the Nigerian healthcare system.

Speaking during Channels Television’s special coverage of Buhari’s funeral on Tuesday, Adesina addressed criticisms surrounding Buhari’s death in a London hospital.
He reminded viewers that the former president had always sought medical care in the UK, even before assuming office in 2015.

“Those who criticised the death of Buhari in a London hospital should understand that the former president had always used London hospitals before he was elected president in May 2015,” Adesina said.

He explained that the medical team in the UK was already familiar with Buhari’s condition and history, which made continuity in treatment essential.

According to Adesina, local medical institutions may not have had the expertise or facilities required to manage the former president’s health.
“Some Nigerian hospitals lacked the facilities and expertise needed for the ex-president’s treatment,” he noted.

Adesina, a former newspaper editor, defended Buhari’s choice, arguing it was a matter of survival.
“Buhari could have been long dead if he had used Nigerian hospitals,” he added.
