Breaking: Tinubu Appoints New Service Chiefs, Names Gen. Olufemi Oluyede Chief of Defence Staff
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs in what the Presidency described as a decisive step to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
Under the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
Also appointed are Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
In the reshuffle, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
A statement from the Presidency on Friday said the appointments take immediate effect, adding that the changes reflect the administration’s continued commitment to reinforcing the operational efficiency and professionalism of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
President Tinubu, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and leadership.
“The President charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by further enhancing the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the statement read.
The development marks the second major shake-up in the nation’s military hierarchy since President Tinubu assumed office, signaling continued reforms aimed at consolidating national security efforts amid evolving threats across the country.
