Oborevwori Unveils New Duplexes, Vehicles for Delta Permanent Secretaries
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday commissioned 12 four-bedroom duplexes and newly constructed internal roads with drainage facilities at the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters in Asaba.
The governor also presented 12 brand-new official vehicles to Permanent Secretaries, describing the projects as part of his administration’s efforts to improve the welfare, efficiency and productivity of senior public servants.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oborevwori said the projects reflected his administration’s commitment to providing public servants with the facilities and support required to perform their duties effectively.
He said: “Today’s ceremony is another milestone in our journey towards enhancing public sector efficiency. Since the inception of this administration on May 29, 2023, we have worked to ensure that deserving public servants are properly and adequately supported in line with the functionality of their offices.”
Oborevwori said the new residences would provide more Permanent Secretaries with official accommodation befitting their responsibilities, while the completed roads and drainage systems would address longstanding erosion and flooding challenges in the quarters.
“The roads and drainage systems in the quarters were in a complete state of disrepair. They were severely eroded and prone to heavy flooding. With the completion of this work, the residents now have long-term relief, while the aesthetics of the quarters have also been significantly improved,” he said.
The governor recalled that his administration had also constructed eight additional duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters.
He disclosed that 302 public servants had benefited from the Public Officers’ Vehicle Loan Scheme, while 119 others had accessed the Public Officers’ Housing Loan Scheme.
According to him, the government had also supported civil servants interested in agriculture and continued to invest in training and capacity development, with 450 senior management staff participating in a seven-week training programme.
Oborevwori further said all 25 local government areas in the state now have Permanent Secretaries following the appointment and swearing-in of 12 new Permanent Secretaries.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and urged civil servants to reciprocate the initiatives with greater dedication, professionalism, integrity, transparency and accountability.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, said the 12 duplexes were equipped with solar power and water facilities.
The State Head of Service, Dr. Minnie Oseji, described the projects and vehicles as a significant improvement in the welfare and operational efficiency of Permanent Secretaries.
She commended the governor for his investments in public service training, digitalisation of government processes and other initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s civil service.
