Mulade Urges Oborevwori to Boost Industrialization for Job Creation

A peace and environmental rights advocate, Mulade Sheriff, has called on Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to urgently pursue large-scale industrialization as a sustainable solution to rising unemployment and worsening socio-economic conditions in the state.

Mulade made the appeal in a statement issued to journalists in Warri, expressing concern over what he described as an alarming rate of youth unemployment, warning that it poses serious security threats if not addressed promptly.

While commending the governor for “remarkable and visible achievements” in infrastructure development across Delta’s urban centres, Mulade stressed that roads and physical projects alone cannot solve deepening poverty and joblessness.

“The governor has recorded landmark achievements in road construction and other critical infrastructure, and these efforts are commendable. However, the rising level of unemployment is an indication to security threats, therfore demands urgent attention.

Without industrialization, the problem of poverty and hunger will continue to worsen,” he said.

Mulade, the Ibe-Sorimowei of the oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area, urged the state government to revive moribund industries and create policies that would attract both local and foreign investors.

He emphasized that Delta’s strategic location, abundant natural resources, and strong human capital position it to become a major industrial hub if supported by deliberate and people-centred policies.

“The government should introduce deliberate and people-centred industrial policies, support small and medium-scale enterprises, and encourage private sector participation. Sustainable job creation can only be achieved through a robust industrial base,” Mulade noted.

According to the environmental advocate, aggressive industrialization would not only reduce unemployment but also boost internally generated revenue and strengthen long-term economic stability in Delta State.
