Man City Found Guilty of 114 Financial Breaches

Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against the club over alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations.

The verdict, reported on Friday, follows an investigation into the club’s finances covering the period between 2009 and 2018. The charges were formally brought by the Premier League in February 2023.

The case involved allegations relating to the provision of accurate financial information, payments to players and coaches, UEFA financial regulations and the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules. City were also accused of failing to cooperate fully with the investigation.

Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing and are expected to appeal the verdict. A club spokesperson said the Premier League process “remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality,” while maintaining the club’s previous position on the charges.

The sanctions for the 114 breaches have not yet been determined. Possible penalties under Premier League rules range from a reprimand or fine to points deductions and, in the most serious circumstances, expulsion from the competition.

The independent commission began hearing the case in September 2024, with proceedings lasting about 12 weeks before the evidentiary phase concluded in December that year.

The verdict marks a major development in one of the longest-running financial cases in Premier League history, but the matter is not yet concluded as City prepares to challenge the decision and awaits the sanction.
