‘I’ve Tried Over and Over’ – Tiwa Savage Opens Up on Struggles with Love
Nigerian music superstar Tiwa Savage has opened up about her personal life, revealing that her only experience of true love has been for her son, Jamil Balogun.
Speaking in a candid interview with British media personality Zeze Mills on Friday, the 45-year-old singer reflected on her past relationships, including her marriage to Tunji ‘TeeBillz’ Balogun and admitted that what she once believed was love was simply infatuation.
“I’ve never felt true love except with my son. Looking back at my relationships, even my marriage, I realise it wasn’t love,” Savage said.
The award-winning artiste expressed doubt over whether romantic love is meant for her.
“I’ve tried repeatedly, so maybe love isn’t meant for me in this lifetime,” she added.
Tiwa Savage, who has previously been open about her struggles with love and marriage, divorced her ex-husband in 2018 after five years of marriage. The couple tied the knot in 2013 but split after attempts to reconcile failed.
The ‘Kele Kele’ hitmaker revealed she battled postpartum depression following the birth of her son and accused her former husband of being responsible for their separation.
Savage also recalled receiving advice from prominent figures to remain silent about her marital troubles to protect her public image, a decision she now reflects on with mixed feelings.
