‘God Said My Firstborn Would Die If I Left RCCG’ — Pastor Adeboye Reveals
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a sobering personal revelation: God warned him that his firstborn would die if he ever left the RCCG.
Speaking during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2)”, held at the Redemption City in Ogun State on the midnight of Saturday, June 7, Adeboye emphasized the importance of divine direction and spiritual consistency.
Referencing a sermon delivered earlier by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, the revered cleric expressed concern over a growing trend among young Christians who frequently switch churches, often appearing as first-timers in new congregations.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” Pastor Adeboye said.
“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
Pastor Adeboye recalled that at the time of his calling, RCCG was relatively obscure, with its headquarters located in a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Despite his academic status as a university lecturer, God instructed him to remain under the spiritual leadership of his then mentor, who had no formal education.
“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he said.
Urging the congregation, especially the youth to seek and remain in the place appointed to them by God, he advised:
“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there.”
Pastor Adeboye, however, made it clear that his revelation was not an attempt to elevate the RCCG above other Christian ministries.
“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he clarified.
