FAAN to End All Cash Transactions at Nigerian Airports From February 29
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has directed that all cash transactions and collections at Nigerian airports must end by February 29, 2026, as part of the Federal Government’s broader cashless policy.
In a memorandum dated February 3, 2026 and signed by FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, the authority said the directive follows a Federal Executive Council decision requiring government agencies to discontinue cash dealings and adopt fully electronic payment systems.
The memo stated: “Further to the approval on cessation of cash collections/transactions by the FEC, it has become expedient that FAAN complies strictly with the policy of cashless economy by conducting all its financial and business transactions through a cashless system, all cash collections or transactions in the conduct of FAAN’s official businesses MUST STOP with effect from February 29, 2026.”
FAAN has directed its departments to deploy alternative approved digital payment channels immediately, warning that failure to comply after the deadline will attract strict penalties.
The new policy aligns with earlier initiatives such as Operation Go Cashless, introduced to modernize airport payment systems and improve transparency, efficiency, and revenue integrity across FAAN facilities.
