BREAKING: Delta Govt Suspends Works Commissioner Izeze Indefinitely Over Alleged Assault

The Delta State Government has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Hon. Reuben Izeze, with immediate effect.

The suspension was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, on Monday, August 10, 2026.

According to the statement, the decision was taken to allow security agencies conduct an unbiased investigation into allegations linking the commissioner to the reported assault of the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple, at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.

The state government said the suspension was necessary to ensure that the investigation could proceed without interference, stressing its commitment to public safety, law and order.

The statement said the government’s position remained that the sanctity of lives and maintenance of public safety must be upheld “even when institutions of state are involved.”

The development comes days after Izeze was reportedly arrested and taken to the Ekpan Police Station for questioning over his alleged connection to the assault on Mudi.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with eyewitnesses alleging that Mudi was attacked and severely beaten by suspected thugs allegedly linked to the commissioner.

Mudi was said to have sustained injuries and was subsequently rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.

However, the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the extent of any involvement by the suspended commissioner remain subject to investigation.

At the time of the earlier report, police authorities had not publicly confirmed the circumstances surrounding Izeze’s reported detention or issued a detailed statement on the alleged assault.

The latest government action is expected to pave the way for security agencies to investigate the allegations and establish what transpired.

This development has generated considerable interest across Delta State, however, the suspension does not by itself establish guilt, and the allegations against Izeze remain allegations pending the outcome of the investigation.
