Delta State Police Confirms Murder of Retired Judge in Asaba, Launches Manhunt for Suspect

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Justice Ifeoma Okogwu (Rtd), whose lifeless body was discovered in her Asaba residence on November 24, 2025. The Command has launched a full-scale investigation and a manhunt for the prime suspect, assuring the family and the public that justice will be served.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the incident was first reported by the deceased’s brother, who visited her home and found her body tied at the hands, legs, and mouth. He immediately alerted the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Asaba.

The DPO promptly mobilized operatives to the residence, where the body of the retired judge was evacuated and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. The police confirmed that one suspect, identified as Lucky Matthew, has already been arrested in connection with the killing.

However, the principal suspect, Godwin Vanem, believed to be responsible for the “dastardly act,” fled the scene and is currently at large.

Following directives from the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a discreet and thorough investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the fleeing suspect may have carried out the murder before escaping from the judge’s apartment.
