Delta Police Arrest 7 Suspects for Defrauding Victims With Fake Direction Tricks

The Delta State Police Command has arrested seven suspected fraudsters who specialised in duping unsuspecting victims by pretending to seek directions.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a post on X on Tuesday.

He explained that the syndicate approached victims, hypnotised them, and eventually carted away their money, phones, jewellery, and other valuables.

“Have you ever come across people who pretend to be looking for direction? Have you ever met a victim lured by them and ended up losing all their money, phones, and jewellery ? Watch till the end to learn their strategy, and please share for others to learn,” Edafe wrote.

In an accompanying video, the police spokesperson added,“We’ve been hearing of this syndicate that usually acts under the guise of seeking direction and eventually manages to hypnotise their victims. They lure them, collect their money, phones, and even their jewellery. It is no longer a fairy tale because today we have about seven suspects who are very good at that, but the hands of the law have finally caught up with them.”

One of the arrested suspects described the scheme as a “419 business,” which requires three participants known as Cashama, Jejeti, and Citama. He further explained the roles each person plays in defrauding their targets. Another suspect revealed that the gang had successfully made about ₦2.7 million from five victims.

He was defrauded of ₦2.5 million in cash, a phone worth ₦1.6 million, and another valued at ₦400,000.

Another victim, Daniel, recounted losing jewellery and gadgets worth over ₦7 million to the same syndicate.

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to fraudsters who deploy tricks under the guise of seeking help.
