Delta Govt Upgrades Warri Central Hospital with Modern MRI, ICU, CT Scan Units
The Delta State Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen specialist healthcare delivery with the deployment of modern diagnostic and critical care equipment at the Central Hospital, Warri.
Inspecting the facility, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, assessed the newly installed 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), CT scanner, expanded dialysis unit, and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
- 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanner: Already operational following a successful test lumbar scan. Official services will open to patients by next Wednesday at state-regulated, subsidized rates to ensure affordability.
- CT Scan & Dialysis Units: Fully installed, tested, and actively functioning.
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Currently 90 percent ready following the procurement and installation of medical ventilators, with full operations scheduled to commence within two weeks.
To prevent equipment breakdown and ensure long-term sustainability, Dr. Onojaeme revealed that the state government is putting strict maintenance measures in place. Specifically, 30 percent of the revenue generated from the MRI, CT scan, and dialysis services will be retained in a dedicated revolving maintenance fund.
He explained that this arrangement will provide continuous funding for routine servicing, repairs, and technical support, significantly reducing dependence on government budget allocations once the manufacturer warranties expire.
According to the Commissioner, this strategic initiative is designed to safeguard the state’s multi-million naira investment in modern healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that Central Hospital, Warri continues to deliver reliable, high-quality, and affordable medical services to Deltans for years to come.
