Delta Assembly Schedules Public Hearing on New Tenancy Bill for October 28
The Delta State House of Assembly has scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, 28th October 2025, on the bill seeking to repeal the Rent Control and Recovery of Residential Premises Law of 1977 and establish a new Landlord and Tenant Law for Delta State 2025.
The bill, which successfully passed its second reading, has been referred to the Joint Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services, and the Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Renewal for detailed legislative review.
According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services, Hon Bridget Anyafulu, the public hearing will take place at the Press Centre of the State Assembly Complex, Asaba, beginning at 11:00 am.
The statement invites written and oral contributions from stakeholders, including the Commissioners for Justice, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, and Information, as well as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Association of Organised Realtors, Landlord Associations, Tenant Associations, and representatives from both public and private sectors.
All memoranda are to be submitted in sealed envelopes addressed to the Chairman, House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs and Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services, and marked: Delta State Repeal of Rent Control and Recovery of Residential Premises Law 1977 and Establishment of the Landlord and Tenant Law 2025.
Those wishing to make oral presentations are advised to contact the Committee Clerk, Mrs Esther Ezeocha-Ekwuaja, between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm at the Delta State House of Assembly Complex, Okpanam Road, Asaba.
This legislative effort aims to modernise tenancy regulations, promote fair housing practices, and address disputes between landlords and tenants in line with current realities.
