Oborevwori Approves 50 CNG Buses for Delta’s MORE Mass Transit Scheme
The Delta State Government has approved 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for the pilot phase of the MORE Mass Transit Scheme, aimed at making public transportation safer, more affordable and more efficient across the state.
The scheme is designed to improve daily movement for thousands of Deltans who rely on public transport to access workplaces, schools, markets and other essential services.
According to the state government, the growing demand for public transportation has created the need for a more organised, reliable and accessible transport system.
As part of preparations for the scheme, the government conducted a study of public transportation patterns across seven major cities: Asaba, Warri, Ughelli, Agbor, Sapele, Abraka and Oleh.
The study found that about 80 per cent of commuters depend on public transportation, highlighting the need for a more structured mass transit system in the state.
The MORE Mass Transit Scheme will provide both inter-city and town transportation services, with the 50 CNG buses serving as the pilot fleet.
The initiative will also be supported by modern transport infrastructure, including plans for a mega bus terminal in Asaba.
The state government said the scheme is expected to improve the reliability of public transportation while making daily travel more affordable and convenient for residents.
With the introduction of CNG-powered buses and improved transport infrastructure, the MORE Mass Transit Scheme is expected to strengthen connectivity between communities and make movement across Delta State easier for commuters.
