Delta 8th Assembly Holds Second Edition Retreat For Management Staff


The Delta State House of Assembly on Thursday commenced the second edition of its management retreat of the 8th Assembly.

Themed “Parliamentary Administration and Management for Effective and Efficient Service Delivery,” the retreat is designed to strengthen the capacity of the Assembly’s staff and promote a vibrant, proactive, and responsive legislature that drives sustainable development.

For this edition, the leadership of the House partnered with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), a body dedicated to providing training and support services for legislative development.

The event, held at Spring Hill Hotel, Asaba, began with opening remarks by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor. He encouraged the management staff to see the retreat as an opportunity for strategic and innovative thinking, focused on delivering value-added services within the legislative bureaucracy.

Speaker Guwor expressed deep appreciation to the Director General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, for deploying knowledgeable resource persons to facilitate the retreat.

He emphasized that the retreat is dear to his heart, as top management staff represent the engine room of the legislative structure. According to him, equipping them with enhanced skills is essential for ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Representing the NILDS Director General, Dr. John Olanrewaju, Consultant, DTIC, NILDS, stated that the retreat was specifically designed to enhance the competencies of the Delta State House of Assembly’s management staff and deepen their understanding of parliamentary procedures and administrative dynamics.

Earlier, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Otto Aghoghophia, expressed gratitude to the Speaker, saying, “You have consistently demonstrated a commitment to building the capacity of the Assembly’s bureaucracy through ongoing staff training and development.”

He also highlighted that the retreat provides an informal space outside the usual office environment, allowing staff to openly discuss and address issues that affect their productivity and work environment.

Participants further expressed their appreciation to the Guwor-led 8th Assembly for prioritizing capacity building of its work force.
