Davido Plans to Join Nollywood, Says He Wants Taxi Driver Role
Afrobeats superstar Davido has expressed his desire to join Nollywood, revealing that he wants to play the role of a taxi driver in a movie.
Speaking during a panel session at the 14th Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), the Timeless crooner shared his passion for acting and film production, hinting at a new chapter in his entertainment career.
Davido said a close associate had promised to offer him a role soon, adding that he would love to take on something unconventional and surprising for his fans.
“In the coming years, I definitely want to get involved in producing movies. My brother was saying he’s going to give me a role,” Davido said.
“I need a role, I want to do something that would shock people — like playing a taxi driver, something completely out of the blue.”
The singer, known for his energetic stage performances and global hits, also revealed plans to produce films and series inspired by real-life stories, while supporting other creatives with funding opportunities.
He added that his goal is to tell authentic African stories and create opportunities for emerging talents across the continent.
“Even in America, a lot of musicians produce films and series about their lives. I want to do things like that too and help fund creatives,” he explained.
Davido’s announcement comes months after he hinted at expanding his creative empire beyond music, confirming that he was already investing in film production.
Several Nigerian music stars have also made their mark in filmmaking, including Burna Boy, whose pan-African thriller 3 Cold Dishes premiered at AFRIFF 2025, and Flavour, who showcased his documentary Afroculture: The Making at the same event.
With his growing interest in storytelling and cinema, fans are already anticipating what Davido’s big-screen debut might look like and whether the multi-award-winning artist will indeed pull off his dream “taxi driver” role.
