The Delta State Police Command has a new helmsman as Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola formally assumed duty as the 23rd Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, following the promotion and redeployment of AIG Olufemi Abaniwonda to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
CP Aina Adesola takes over from AIG Abaniwonda, who was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and posted to the Department of Operations, Force Headquarters.

Notably, CP Adesola is no stranger to Delta State, having been first posted to the state in 1996, where he served in Ogwashi-Uku, beginning what would become a distinguished policing career spanning operational, administrative, investigative, and training roles.
Throughout his service, the new CP has held several key positions, including Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Aswani Division (2012–2015); Officer-in-Charge, Homicide Unit, Edo State Command (2016); OC X-Squad, Zone 2, Lagos (2016); Assistant Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration, Abia State Command (2018–2022); and Commandant, Police Training School, Oyin-Akoko, Ondo State (2022).

Following his promotion to Commissioner of Police in 2025, CP Adesola was posted as Deputy Commandant, Police College, Ikeja, where he served for seven months before his deployment in January 2026 as Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command.
In furtherance of his professional development, CP Adesola has undergone several specialised and leadership trainings, including courses at the Police Staff College, Jos, Police Mobile Training School, Gwoza, Police College, Ikeja, and international law enforcement programmes at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Botswana and New Mexico, USA.
