Brother War: Peter Okoye Fires Back at Jude

A new wave of tension has erupted in the Okoye family as Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, one-half of the now-defunct PSquare duo, publicly responded to a cryptic and accusatory post made by his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye.

On Friday, Jude Okoye took to Instagram to share a pointed message that appeared to address former collaborators. Though he refrained from mentioning names, the post seemed directed at those he once worked closely with, accusing them of betrayal and ingratitude.

“They all have one thing in common: they were big, influential, and successful when I was shouldering them with my platform until they got greedy and wanted to eat alone and so left,” Jude wrote.

“They never complained afterward… rather, they bragged about their ‘newfound freedom’… Years down the line they fell off… instead of accepting responsibility… they are pointing fingers at the same person they left for their ‘freedom’.”

Jude went further to allege that he was the target of orchestrated blackmail, involving fabricated allegations intended to land him in jail.

“They even tried to blackmail me into submission by concocting lies and spreading false allegations of money laundering and fraud just to get me jailed,” he added.

In a swift and sharp response, Peter Okoye—also known as Mr. P took to X (formerly Twitter) to confront his elder brother’s remarks, accusing Jude of constantly attempting to belittle his achievements and misrepresent their professional history.

“JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE OLDER, DOESN’T MEAN YOU DESERVE RESPECT. RESPECT IS EARNED, NOT GIVEN,” Peter began.

“Calling me broke or wishing I was broke has been your wish. These are the exact same words you told the EFCC officials. And you ended up getting locked up in prison. Of course, you have to come up with another narrative.”

Dismissing Jude’s claims of having “shouldered” his career, Peter clarified that Jude was never the mastermind behind PSquare’s success but rather an employee.

“You were shouldering who? Agbaya, you were employed as a manager by Peter and Paul and you got sacked the same as the other two managers before you. Period!”

Peter further stated that his solo career has brought him more fulfillment, both financially and personally, than the PSquare era—when profits were shared among three parties: himself, his twin brother Paul, and Jude.

“This solo journey has been a blessing—more rewarding and profitable, both financially and personally, no doubt.
And it has also brought me peace of mind,” he wrote.

Referencing ongoing legal proceedings between them, Peter issued a direct challenge to Jude:

“Despite the fact we are in court! You still haven’t answered the question, ARE YOU A THIEF OR NOT? Ndi ori.”

He concluded with a strong stance on self-worth and a warning to those who attempt to undermine him:

“I have stopped playing nice and being the mature one while getting disrespected!… Life isn’t about begging people for fair treatment! It’s about matching energy… Tit for tat!”

This public fallout is the latest development in a long-running family feud that led to the 2017 breakup of PSquare. Although Peter and Paul reconciled in 2021, this recent altercation suggests that unresolved tensions with their elder brother Jude continue to haunt the once-powerful musical family.
