Convicted Kim Kardashian Robber Dies Weeks After Guilty Verdict
One of the elderly men dubbed the “grandpa robbers,” who were convicted in connection with the 2016 armed robbery of reality TV star Kim Kardashian, has died just one month after the conclusion of the trial, according to reports from French media.
Didier Dubreucq, 69, who was suffering from lung cancer, passed away while undergoing chemotherapy treatment he began while in detention ahead of the high-profile trial.
In May 2025, Dubreucq and seven others were found guilty of carrying out the infamous heist in which Kardashian was robbed of nearly $10 million worth of jewellery at gunpoint in a Paris hotel suite.
Despite his conviction, Dubreucq maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.
“It’s a mistaken identity case… I had nothing to do with this,” he testified during the April hearings.
Dubreucq, also known by the nickname “Blue Eyes,” was not present for his sentencing due to his health condition. He received a seven-year sentence, with five years suspended, meaning he did not return to prison as he had already served two years in pre-trial detention.
Three other individuals received sentences of up to eight years, most of which were also suspended. Like Dubreucq, they were not reincarcerated due to time already served.
Presiding Judge David De Pas justified the leniency in sentencing, stating:
“The state of health of the main protagonists ethically prohibits incarcerating anyone.”
The three-week trial revisited the terrifying night Kardashian endured. She took the stand and described being held at gunpoint, tied up, and fearing for her life.
“I would be shot dead on the bed,” she recalled during her testimony.
In her post-verdict statement, Kardashian said:
“The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family.”
The robbers, all advanced in age, earned the nickname “grandpa robbers” due to their seniority. Among the stolen items was Kardashian’s $4 million engagement ring, gifted to her by her then-husband, rapper Kanye West.
