AI to Drive Health, Education, Agricultural Innovation – Bill Gates

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, has expressed his confidence in the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) in unlocking innovative solutions for global challenges in health, education, and agriculture.

During a meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Gates highlighted the potential of AI-driven innovation to address pressing issues.

Gates visited Jakarta, where he engaged with the President and local philanthropists, emphasizing the role of AI in discovering new tools and enhancing the delivery of essential services. “AI is going to help us discover new tools. And even in the delivery of health and education and agriculture advice, we’ll be using AI,” he said.

The billionaire philanthropist pointed to the progress made in the fight against polio, citing the potential for AI-powered innovations to tackle other diseases like measles and malaria.

“Once we finish (eradicating) polio, we’d like to try and eradicate measles and malaria as well. We have some new tools for that. And of course, part of my optimism about the innovation is because we have now artificial intelligence.”

Gates’ visit to Indonesia underscores his commitment to the country, having donated over $159 million since 2009, primarily to the health sector. President Prabowo acknowledged Gates’ contributions, announcing plans to confer Indonesia’s highest civilian award upon him.

The meeting follows Microsoft’s pledge to invest $1.7 billion in AI and cloud computing in Indonesia, aimed at developing the country’s AI infrastructure. Gates’ visit included a stop at an elementary school in Jakarta, where he witnessed the implementation of a free meal program initiated by President Prabowo.
