Tesla Unveils Flying Car Prototype, Targets 2028 Production

Electric car giant Tesla has revealed a futuristic new sports car that can actually lift off the ground and fly for short distances.

During a live event in Texas, Tesla owner Elon Musk showed off the brand-new Tesla Roadster. To prove what the car can do, the team launched it off a ramp, made it hover in mid-air, and landed it safely back on the ground.

How Does it Fly?

The car uses space technology created in partnership with Musk’s space company, SpaceX:

  • Mini Rocket Engines: Small rocket thrusters installed around the car push high-pressure air out to lift the vehicle off the ground and turn it in mid-air.
  • Super Acceleration: Thanks to the rocket thrusters, the car can go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than one second, making it the fastest-accelerating car in the world.
  • Special Air Fans: Fans built under the car help suck it tight to the ground when driving at high speeds so it doesn’t flip over accidentally.

When Will it Be Available?

Tesla originally promised this car years ago, but it was delayed while engineers worked out the technology.

Tesla has now confirmed that official production will begin in 2028. Musk stated that while the flying version will need special approvals from road authorities, Tesla plans to make a version that people can legally drive on regular public roads.
