‘We Haven’t Seen a Kobo’ — Ajibade Says Super Falcons Still Await $100,000 Reward
Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that the Nigerian women’s national football team is yet to receive the $100,000 cash reward and other bonuses promised to them after their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph in Morocco.
Speaking in an upcoming episode of With Chude, hosted by Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade expressed frustration over the prolonged delay despite repeated assurances from the authorities.
“We have not received our money oo. Please, they have not paid. All the promises you heard back and forth, we have not received anything,” she said.
“People are begging. We have not received it. When they pay it, you will see. Even our match bonuses and everything… everything is still a work in progress.”
In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu announced a $100,000 reward for each Super Falcons player as a token of appreciation for their record 10th WAFCON title, alongside other entitlements.
Ajibade disclosed that the players were told the funds had already been allocated but insisted no money had reached them. She urged the authorities to honor their commitments, warning that the delay was taking a toll on the team.
The 24-year-old striker also shared her personal journey, revealing she grew up in a Mushin compound housing almost 100 people, where she had to wash toilets and bathrooms to earn money.
She spent 10 years at FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League without a salary before moving to Norway’s Avaldsnes IL at 17. In 2021, she joined Atlético Madrid Femenino in Spain, where she currently plays.
