Tinubu Approves Nigeria to Host CAF General Assembly, Awards

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s hosting of the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football and the 2026 CAF Awards Ceremony.

The approval was granted during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi after a meeting between the Nigerian President and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.

According to the announcement, the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is expected to hold in October 2026.

The CAF General Assembly is regarded as one of the continent’s biggest football gatherings, bringing together presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, zonal unions and top football administrators to discuss major issues affecting African football.

Nigeria will also host the CAF Awards Ceremony, one of Africa’s most prestigious football events, which celebrates outstanding players, coaches, teams and football personalities across the continent.

The development is seen as a major boost for Nigeria’s international sporting profile and its growing influence in African football administration.
