Southern Presidency: I Sacrificed my 2027 Presidential Ambition for PDP Zoning – Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has revealed that he willingly stepped down his presidential ambition in deference to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s collective decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, said his decision was driven by a commitment to sacrifice, unity, and fairness rather than personal interest.

Daily Post reports that, the governor while addressing journalists in Bauchi on Monday, August 25, 2025, explained that he was fully involved in the consultations, strategies, and resolutions that culminated in the zoning agreement.

“I’m very satisfied with the resolution because I’m part of it, from the arrangement, strategy, and delivery. It’s an all-inclusive decision for us to sustain the existing zoning formula in party offices and to zone the presidential office to the South-South so that we can have some sanity, understanding, and unity,” he said.

The Bauchi governor emphasized that politics should be seen as a vehicle for collective progress, not merely a struggle for individual ambition.

“Politics is not about personal interest, it’s about self-actualization within the framework of party decisions, manifesto, and national development. Everything is predicated on sacrifice, not interest. Of course, we must always give allowance, respect each other, and remember that power comes from God,” he added.

Mohammed reaffirmed the readiness of PDP governors and stakeholders to work together to reposition the party as a credible choice for Nigerians ahead of the next general elections.

“As governors, the NWC, and BoT, we are always available to work towards making sure that PDP remains the darling of Nigerians by giving everyone the political space to actualize their aspirations,” he assured.
