Natasha’s Comeback Is Just Content Creation — Senate

The Senate has defended its decision to block Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, from gaining access to the chamber on Tuesday, insisting that she remains under suspension.

The embattled senator had arrived at the National Assembly complex to resume her legislative duties following a six-month suspension imposed by the Senate. However, she was stopped by security operatives at the entrance of the chamber, who reportedly told her they were “acting on orders from above.”

Speaking on the matter during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday night, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of turning her attempted return into a media spectacle.

“The National Assembly at large has a lot of roles to play. We are legislators and lawmakers, not spectators to be watching skit-making and content creation,” Adaramodu said.

“Initially, I said all these episodes and saga is all about content creation, now that the content has been created, it’s now degenerating into a season film. We are not interested, we are lawmakers not actors, we are not interested in all these kinds of things,” he added.

Addressing the senator’s claim that a court had nullified her suspension, Adaramodu stressed that due process must be followed even when a judgment is obtained.

“Even when any litigant goes to court and gets judgment, either the person feels that this is an order when that is not an order, the litigant does not enforce the order by himself or herself,” he said.

“There are court bailiffs who will serve orders on those that should be served as prescribed by the court. I know that Nigerians know that this is another skit making and a continuation of the content making episode by our own colleague,” Adaramodu added.

Despite Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s insistence that her suspension had been overturned by a court ruling, the Senate has yet to officially acknowledge the judgment or issue any formal statement reinstating her.
