Liverpool Set to Launch Second Bid for Alexander Isak
Liverpool are ready to renew their pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak if there is an opening for his departure, as manager Arne Slot intensifies the search for a marquee forward ahead of the 2025/26 season following the exits of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.
A report by Vanguard, quoting football journalist Fabrizio Romano, revealed that the Reds are prepared to submit an improved offer after Newcastle rejected their first bid last month.
On August 1, the Magpies turned down a £110 million approach from Liverpool, with the Anfield club initially indicating they were ready to walk away from the deal.
Isak, 25, has been one of the Premier League’s standout forwards since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022. His pace, intelligent movement, and composure in front of goal have made him a prime target for Liverpool as they refresh their attacking options.
Newcastle remain unwilling to sell, with manager Eddie Howe emphasising the Sweden international’s role in their Champions League ambitions. However, the club’s need to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules could make a record-breaking offer harder to reject.
Following a pre-season friendly defeat to Atletico Madrid, Howe admitted: “Everything is in play” when it comes to Isak’s future, but stressed it was “clear” he “cannot involve” the striker in his current plans.
Isak is set to miss Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday. He also skipped the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East due to a “minor” thigh injury.
During his recovery, the Swedish forward trained alone at former club Real Sociedad before returning to the UK last week. Isak, who netted 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season, still has three years remaining on his contract in the north east.
