Jennifer Lopez Sparks Debate with Kiss During AMA Performance

Jennifer Lopez lit up the stage at the 2025 American Music Awards, delivering a showstopping opening performance that has quickly become one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

In just six minutes, the Grammy Award-winning singer performed an impressive medley of 23 songs but it was her bold display of affection that truly stunned fans and celebrities alike. During the performance, Lopez danced to Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control”, and in a move that sent shockwaves across the internet, she kissed a male dancer, then moments later, kissed a female dancer.

The moment quickly went viral, drawing both admiration and criticism from viewers.

“This performance will live in my mind rent free! SOOOOO GOOD!” one fan wrote on Instagram.

“Kicked things off and never looked back. That glow, that energy, that presence—she’s in a league of her own,” another fan added.

However, not everyone was impressed.

“She’s vulgar,” one Instagram user commented.

“I thought the choreography was satire tbh,” wrote another. “Cringe.”

Celebrities present at the ceremony were just as taken aback. Comedian Tiffany Haddish, who introduced Lopez following her performance, praised the star’s energy while joking about the intimate moment.

“How cool is it to have a total superstar like J.Lo hosting the AMAs?” Haddish told the audience. “Our host has just danced to 23 hits in six minutes. Just from that opening number alone, Jenny from the Block has got all her steps in for the day, and she got all her kisses in.”

“Save a dancer for me, J.Lo. Damn! You ain’t the only one out here single,” she quipped.

The onstage PDA comes just months after Lopez finalized her divorce from actor Ben Affleck. The two had rekindled their relationship after 17 years apart and were married for two years before Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, marking the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding.

In recent interviews, Lopez has spoken candidly about growth, heartbreak, and finding purpose in life’s challenges.

“I think the way I overcome things is not by thinking of them as happening to me but happening for me and what is the lesson that needs to be learned in the moment,” she told British Vogue.

“Because that’s really what our hardships are in life. What am I supposed to learn here?”

“There are no coincidences. This is not happening, you know, just randomly. It’s happening for a reason.”

Reflecting on her past with Affleck, Lopez shared with Interview Magazine that she had no regrets about giving their love another shot.

“That doesn’t mean it didn’t almost take me out for good,” she confessed to Nikki Glaser. “It almost did. But now, on the other side of it, I think to myself, ‘F—, that is exactly what I needed. Thank you, God. I’m sorry it took me so long. I’m sorry that you had to do this to me so many times. I should have learned it two or three times ago. I get it. You had to hit me really hard over the head with a f—ing sledgehammer. You dropped the house on me. Don’t have to do it again.’”
